Repairs

If you are not ready for a new roof but need a problem fixed with your existing one, just contact us. We will make any repairs needed to get your roof back in order. The following are some common reasons for roof repairs:

Chimney Flashing Replacement

Chimney Flashing Replacement

Chimneys that leak, have missing flashing, or improper flashing should be reflashed. The caulking around the flashing should also be in place and free of cracks. It is also recommended to install waterproof underlayment around the base of chimneys prior to shingle installation, as well as installing a "cricket" (wood saddle) at the rear base of the chimney. These will prevent the buildup of ice and snow at the rear of the chimney and divert water runoff around it.

Removing Algae Stains

Algae

Also called "fungus growth," algae discolors a roof by giving it a brown to black appearance. It is most prevalent in coastal areas and regions subject to warm and humid weather. These stains are difficult to remove, but may be significantly lightened by applying a chlorine bleach/TSP solution. Another solution is to install a roofing system consisting of algae-resistant shingles. These are offered by most shingle manufacturers.

Replacing Shingles

Shingles that have blown off or torn as a result of high winds or other conditions should be replaced to retain the effectiveness of a home's roofing system.

Valley Leaks

More often than not, leaking valleys are caused by improper installation and should be replaced. Ice damming may be another cause of valley leaks, in which case waterproof underlayment should be installed prior to shingle application. See FAQ - What are ice dams and how do they affect roofing systems?

Vent Stack Leaks

Pipe Flashing

Practically all homes have circular vent pipes projecting through the roof. Proper flashing installation for these vents is critical to prevent leaks. Plumbing vents that leak or have cracked rubber gaskets should be replaced with new flashing. Flashing options available are lead, neoprene, or plastic flanges.
